One of the largest minority communities in the U.S., Latinos face a pressing number of health challenges — both mental and physical. In light of the unique challenges facing Latinos in the country and in the Houston area, Harris County Precinct 2, Children at Risk, and the Baker Institute Child Health Policy Program compiled a comprehensive report on the state of pediatric Latino health in Houston. (Access the full report here, or read an overview here.)

At a public press conference on March 14, 2024, the report's co-authors shared key insights from the report. Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia offered guidance on our collective journey toward fostering healthier communities, while Bob Sanborn, CEO of Children at Risk, and Dr. Sandra McKay, the Baker Institute's Huffington Fellow in Child Health Policy, highlighted key measures and interventions.

A luncheon held after the press conference provided a space for stakeholders to engage in substantive discussion and explore solutions to childhood obesity, mental health, and kindergarten readiness in Precinct 2.

This event was co-sponsored by the Baker Institute Child Health Policy Program, Children at Risk, and Harris County Precinct 2. Follow @BakerInstitute on X and join the conversation with #BakerPolicy.
