Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the country — including about 20% of Texas women of reproductive age who lack health insurance. Another 10% rely on public insurance. These gaps have a major impact on access to contraception: while more than five million Texas women use contraception, nearly half are not using their preferred method.

New research from the Baker Institute Center for Health Policy and Resound Research for Reproductive Health sheds light on why. The study examines how insurance status affects women’s ability to use their preferred method, the barriers they face when accessing care, including cost, and which method they would choose if cost were not a factor. In this webinar, researchers presented their findings and joined expert panelists to discuss potential policy solutions to expand access and ensure that all Texas women can use the contraceptive method that best meets their needs.
