Mental health issues and learning disabilities are widespread among children in the U.S. juvenile justice system. Finding ways to effectively treat, educate and rehabilitate these children is crucial, yet state juvenile justice departments often lack the resources for doing so.
Hosted at Baker Hall on September 6, this conference brought together local Houston area county officials, child health experts and community members impacted by the juvenile justice system to discuss ways to meet the mental health needs of children in custody. The event was open to the public.
This conference was co-sponsored by the Baker Institute Child Health Policy Program and the Minaret Foundation.
