With high and rising rates of mental and neurological disorders — such as suicide and Alzheimer’s disease — brain health matters more than ever.  Brain health is a critical aspect of human well-being, affecting cognitive abilities, socioemotional stability, and overall quality of life. The Baker Institute for Public Policy, Rice University, and the Texas Medical Center wish to lead in the brain science field and have an array of world-leading assets to succeed in this goal. But more collaboration opportunities with the Texas state and federal government are needed.

We hosted a discussion with Rep. Morgan Luttrell, R-Texas, Houston congressional delegation member and co-chair of the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus (CNC). A medically retired Navy SEAL combat veteran and survivor of traumatic brain injury, Luttrell is passionate about research and advances in neuroscience. Hear his story and gain insights into his interests, strategy, and goals for the CNC by watching the recorded live stream below.

The bipartisan CNC promotes a better understanding of how the brain develops, functions, and ages. Its mission is to raise awareness about the millions of Americans afflicted with neurological disorders or mental illnesses.

This event was co-sponsored by the Baker Institute Center for Health and Biosciences and the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute. With support from Rice University’s Office of Research
