Many athletes, including some high-profile National Football League players, seek unproven stem cell treatments in an effort to heal injuries nonsurgically and/or to accelerate recovery times after surgery. This report describes the problems associated with unproven stem cell treatments, focusing on those without FDA approval undertaken by NFL players in the past five years.
