Gov. Rick Perry has named Dr. Peter Hotez, founding dean of Baylor College of Medicine's National School of Tropical Medicine and Baker Institute fellow in disease and poverty, to a blue-ribbon task force formed to ensure Texas appropriately responds to infectious diseases like the Ebola virus.

The 17-member Texas Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness will study and improve the state’s existing protocols and help Texas to quickly halt the spread of diseases. It will, in addition, expand hospital readiness guidelines for infectious diseases and increase lines of communication between schools, hospitals and first-responders.
