The Visegrad Group (also known as the "Visegrad Four" or simply "V4") consists of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic. The V4 countries have a combined population of nearly 65 million and a collective GDP of approximately $1.1 trillion — which on a standalone basis would rank the V4 among the world’s 20 largest economies. Their cultural, intellectual and technological contributions are immense, and after the fall of the Iron Curtain, they achieved remarkable human and economic progress. And as visitors to Central Texas know, V4 culinary traditions underpin the creation of world-class BBQ.

Centuries of great power politics have made the V4 leaders acutely aware of the importance of European integration and multilateral economic and security cooperation and coordination within existing European and transatlantic institutions. As great power competition returns to Eastern and Central Europe and the EU grapples with its own future direction, the V4 is more important than ever.

At this event, the ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Poland and the Slovak Republic and the chargé d'affaires at the Hungarian embassy in Washington, D.C. discussed topics including energy security, economic and political integration, and the V4’s role as strategic competition heats up between the EU, China, Russia and the United States. Gabriel Collins, the Baker Botts Fellow in Energy & Environmental Regulatory Affairs, moderated the conversation.
