At this webinar, which featured the research of postdoctoral research fellow Adrian Duhalt, our experts discussed the push for petrochemicals in emerging markets. The future of global energy markets is highly uncertain, with oil often headlining the discussion. This is the result of the dramatic economic contraction induced by the Covid-19 pandemic and the potential impact of emergent policies to reduce CO2 emissions. In response, both national oil companies and international oil companies are looking to capture value elsewhere. Petrochemicals seem like an attractive option, with interest growing in key emerging markets, principally in Asia, where an expanding middle class is projected to boost consumption of petrochemical products in the decades to come.
