The energy industry is a target for cybercriminals and state-sponsored hackers alike, and the threat level is rising. Security provider Bitdefender notes an upward trend in cyberattacks in the energy sector over the past year, with 5,000 attacks in February 2020 alone. Regardless of a firm’s position in the energy value chain, cyber risks present high stakes that are often underestimated, potentially costing billions of dollars and, in the worst cases, causing loss of life.

This webinar featured Robert Lee, CEO and founder of the industrial cybersecurity provider Dragos, Thomas Winston, assistant professor of cyber security engineering at George Mason University's Volgenau School of Engineering, and Chris Bronk, assistant professor of computer and information systems and associate director of the Center for Information Security Research and Education at the University of Houston. The discussion was moderated by Gabriel Collins, the Center for Energy Studies’ Baker Botts Fellow in Energy & Environmental Regulatory Affairs.
