The Affordable Care Act (ACA, or Obamacare) is the most dramatic change in national health policy since the creation of Medicare and Medicaid 50 years ago. The uninsured rate has fallen to a historic low of 9 percent, and 1 million more Texans have gained insurance coverage since 2013. However, both Republican congressional members and the Trump administration have vowed to repeal and replace Obamacare. In the meantime, health care providers, insurers and nonprofit organizations have made substantial investments to meet the needs of newly insured patients, assist the uninsured in obtaining coverage and comply with new ACA regulations.

At this event, representatives from three entities that treat patients and serve the insured and the uninsured discussed the challenges they have faced under Obamacare, as well as their concerns for the future of health care delivery in the U.S. As policymakers and health care experts continue to debate changes to the financing and delivery of health care, the panel members expressed the concerns and hopes that they have for the future of our health care system.
