Webinar — Life Cycle Assessment a Key for Clean Energy Transition?

While the energy transition is underway to meet global climate targets and sustainability goals, the impacts across the life cycle for decarbonization solutions are largely unquantified from a sustainability perspective. Life cycle assessments (LCAs) are considered a holistic view of inputs and outputs across the life of a product, material, process or activity from raw materials extraction to production to distribution and final disposal. With corporations and governments aligning around global sustainability goals and environmental, social and governance commitments, it is even more critical that LCAs address these variables in order to understand the true impacts of technologies being introduced as climate solutions.

At this webinar, Mike Levy, senior associate for First Environment, and Sarah Marie Jordaan, assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, explored how LCAs can be an informative tool in achieving sustainability and circularity. As pressure rises to accelerate the energy transition, they also touched on topics such as LCA approaches, interpretation and communication, international standardization, and application to the energy industry. Rachel A. Meidl, fellow in energy and environment, moderated the discussion.
