Prices at the pump are soaring. What is happening in the oil market, and what does it mean for consumers, producers, the economy — and policy?

At this event, industry experts explored how oil markets are responding to unprecedented challenges, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resulting impacts for Russian oil exports; investors’ continued reluctance to fund U.S. shale operations (despite higher oil prices); and OPEC+ production decisions amid pressure from President Joe Biden and other leaders seeking relief for consumers. Mark Finley, fellow in energy and global oil at the Baker Institute, hosted the discussion.

Following opening remarks from the panelists, Finley moderated a discussion and audience Q&A. The event was open to in-person attendees as well as guests who attended virtually via Zoom.
