Economic growth has long been the engine of prosperity in the United States, and has resulted in a sustained increase in living standards that has made the U.S. the leading global economy. However, recent economic, demographic and political trends have created strong headwinds that may limit future U.S. economic growth.

On Dec. 6-7, the Baker Institute Center for Public Finance brought together world-renowned economists for a conference on the challenges of maintaining vigorous economic growth in the U.S.

Economist Martin Feldstein, president emeritus of the National Bureau of Economic Research, presented a public keynote address on Dec. 6 on the trajectory of U.S. economic growth.

The public was also invited to a luncheon address by Harvard economist Stefanie Stantcheva on Dec. 7, followed by a panel discussion on the factors that will shape future economic growth.

Attendance at other conference sessions was by invitation only.

This conference was part of the 25th anniversary commemorative programs featuring the centers and research of Rice University’s Baker Institute.
