At this kick-off event, the Baker Institute launched an initiative that explores and seeks to understand the role of oil in the energy transition. Tim Gould, chief energy economist and co-lead of the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s World Energy Outlook, began the hybrid event with a virtual presentation on the oil dimensions of the IEA’s long-term scenarios, which have been widely used to steer climate policy plans and objectives (including the recently concluded 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow).

Following the presentation, Kenneth Medlock, senior director of the Center for Energy Studies, and Bobby Tudor, a partner at Perella Weinberg Partners and chairman of Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., provided commentary on the scenarios. An audience Q&A followed the discussion.

The event was available online to the public and members of the media, with limited in-person registration also offered. Mark Finley, fellow in energy and global oil, moderated the discussion.
