The critically acclaimed documentary "I.O.U.S.A.," tells the story of America's four key deficits -- budget, savings, balance of payments and leadership -- and their implications for the nation and U.S. citizens.
The film, an official selection of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, follows the Fiscal Wake-Up tour sponsored by The Concord Coalition, a nationwide, nonpartisan grassroots organization advocating fiscal responsibility while ensuring that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are secure for all generations.
The movie features Robert Bixby, executive director of The Concord Coalition, and David Walker, former comptroller general of the United States and the Fiscal Wake-Up Tour keynote speaker. "I.O.U.S.A." also contains interviews with Concord Coalition President Peter G. Peterson and board members Robert Rubin, former secretary of the U.S. Treasury, and Paul Volcker, the former Federal Reserve chairman. There is rare footage of The Concord Coalition's first media event, a press conference below the National Debt Clock in Times Square, with founders Paul Tsongas and Warren Rudman, both former U.S. senators, and Peter G. Peterson, former secretary of U.S. Commerce.
Immediately following the film screening, there will be a small question and answer session with John Diamond, Edward A. and Hermena Hancock Kelly Fellow in Tax Policy at the Baker Institute, and Jeff Thiebert, national grassroots director and Southwest regional director for The Concord Coalition.
