The Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies hosted Eirik Wærness, senior vice president and chief economist at Equinor, for a private closed-door meeting on the key findings from the company’s 2018 Energy Perspectives report. The report addressed several issues regarding the global energy market, including projected energy demand growth over the coming decades, future investment needs in energy supply and whether a global energy transition is currently underway.

Wærness explained the report’s main projections, which run through 2050 and cover all the main global regions, energy sectors and fuels. The report presents three scenarios based on different assumptions about regional and global economic growth, geopolitics, technological development, energy efficiency, and energy and climate policies. This invitation-only event was part of the center's Chief Economist Series, which features outlooks and perspectives from the energy industry’s leading strategists and economic thinkers. The goal of the series is to gain different viewpoints from industry insiders on the expected evolution of energy markets.
