About The Program

The Baker Institute’s Latin America Initiative formally ended on July 1, 2020.

Organized in 1996 under the direction of Erika de la Garza, the LAI brought together a unique network of scholars from the U.S. and Central and South America who fostered a deeper understanding of the region’s social, political and economic challenges, and developed effective approaches to address them.

Program publications and events are available in the Baker Institute’s online research library and video archives.

Current research and events related to Latin America can be found at the Center for Energy Studies' Latin American Energy Program page and the Center for the United States and Mexico.
