Texas is home to over 6 million women of childbearing age whose ability to plan their pregnancies by accessing reproductive health care, including contraception, is impacted by policy decisions. Because Texas has the highest rate and number of uninsured people in the US, many Texas women are challenged when trying to access affordable providers and contraception. A patchwork of state, federal, and privately funded programs offer some services to some women under certain conditions. The Center for Health Policy’s experts study the impact of policy decisions on Texas women’s access to reproductive health care including issues such as access to contraceptives for teens, the impact of changes in insurance status on the ability to obtain services, and contraceptive preferences among Texas women.
