Peter Volkmar is a graduate fellow with the Center for Energy Studies at Rice University's Baker Institute and a Ph.D. student in energy and resource economics at Rice University. His research focuses on crude oil pricing and behavior of oligopolies in crude oil and natural gas markets. Previously he was an economics reporter with Business Monthly, a magazine of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo focusing on Egypt’s business and economic environment. He has also worked in microfinance in Egypt, social work with Middle Eastern immigrants in New York City and international arbitration in Manhattan. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he double majored in mathematics and religious studies with a focus on Islam in the Middle East.
