The North American Development Bank (NADB) was created under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to finance infrastructure projects that would ease the environmental burden of commercial activity along the U.S.-Mexico border. Over the last 25 years, the NADB has been both the object of proposed reforms and the hope of many for closer collaboration between the U.S. and Mexico. Today, NAFTA stands to be replaced by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which presents new opportunities for the NADB.
At this event, the Honorable Henry Cuellar, U.S. representative for the 28th Congressional District of Texas, and the Honorable Antonio Garza, former U.S. ambassador to Mexico, discussed the NADB's prospects under the new USMCA trade arrangements. NADB managing director Alex Hinojosa, NADB deputy managing director Calixto Mateos-Hanel and a panel of experts further evaluated the NADB's history, evolution and future.
