Mexico’s energy sector was transformed in August 2014 by legislative action opening the upstream energy sector to private capital investment for the first time since 1938. Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), the national oil and gas enterprise, will remain a major player in the energy sector and will be crucial to the success of the energy reform. At the inaugural McLarty Lecture Series event, Emilio Lozoya, CEO of Pemex, addressed the future of the company and the significance of Mexico's energy reforms for the global energy market. The McLarty Lecture Series of the Baker Institute Mexico Center features scholars and leaders with insight into the challenging policy issues affecting U.S.-Mexico relations, such as trade, energy, infrastructure, immigration, security and public safety, and the rule of law. The series is named for Thomas F. McLarty III to honor his distinguished record of business leadership and public service.
This event, co-sponsored by the Mexico Center and the Center for Energy Studies, was open to members of the Mexico Forum and the Energy Forum by invitation only.
