Biography
Garza is an international economist and CEO of Soluciones Financieras GAMMA, a financial firm in Monterrey, and Miri Capital LLC, a real estate firm. His professional background includes serving as Chief Mexico Economist at ITAU BBA in Mexico City and holding senior roles at Mexico’s Ministry of Finance, including general director of international financial organizations and director of economic planning. He began his career as an economic analyst at the Mexican Central Bank. Academically, Garza has taught courses such as microeconomics, business economics, risk management, fintech, and financial markets at EGADE Business School and ITESM in Monterrey and Mexico City, as well as at the Bristol Business School and Essex Business School in the United Kingdom.
He holds a Ph.D. in finance (2009) and an M.Sc in financial economics (2005) from the University of Essex, along with a bachelor’s degree in economics (2002) from ITESM. Garza has published extensively in international journals and is the author of Competition and Efficiency in the Mexican Banking Industry: Theory and Empirical Evidence. His research focuses on industrial organization in Latin American banking. In addition to academia and business, he is a weekly columnist for El Financiero in Monterrey and regularly contributes expert commentary to both national and international media.
