Featured Speaker

Howard Schultz grew up in Brooklyn public housing and became the first in his family to attend and graduate college, earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Michigan in 1975. Schultz later joined Starbucks in 1982 and ultimately helped it grow from six stores and less than 100 employees to almost 30,000 stores, employing more than three million people worldwide over its history. Under his leadership, Starbucks pioneered programs like health care, stock ownership and free college tuition for its employees. In June 2018, Schultz left Starbucks and became chairman emeritus of the company. He is also the author of several books, the most recent of which, “From the Ground Up: A Journey to Reimagine the Promise of America,” chronicles his childhood alongside his efforts to find creative solutions to pressing social and economic challenges, including access to health care, education and jobs.
