Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy invited Texas state legislators and their staff members to a special lunchtime policy briefing at the Texas State Capitol on Monday, Oct. 20, from noon to 2:00 pm.

Attendees heard from Baker Institute Director David M. Satterfield and met experts in public finance, health, technology, security, and more. This was a unique opportunity to meet our Rice-based scholars in Austin and explore their evidence-based, nonpartisan research on a broad range of Texas policy issues.

The Texas Policy Forum addressed some of the state’s most pressing policy challenges, including budget and tax reform, school-based health and education outcomes, the economic impact of research and innovation, cross-border and trade dynamics, and the growing influence of housing, food access, and infrastructure on community health.

Program Highlights:

  • Open lunch for state lawmakers and their staffers.
  • Remarks by Director David M. Satterfield and other institute experts.
  • Meet-and-greet session with institute experts and staff.

This event was open to state legislators and legislative staff, state government officials, and Rice University alumni. Registration was required.
