As Houston continues its recovery efforts, state and city leaders are looking at the steps needed to better protect lives and property during the next catastrophic storm. At this event, Jim Blackburn, co-director of Rice University’s Severe Storm Prediction, Education and Evacuation from Disaster (SSPEED) Center, discussed his latest book, “A Texan Plan for the Texas Coast,” which describes long-term flood mitigation solutions based on SSPEED Center research on the region’s torrential rains.

A book signing followed the presentation. Copies of the book were available for purchase courtesy of the Rice University Campus Store.

This event was sponsored by the Baker Institute Roundtable Young Professionals. Follow @BakerInstitute on Twitter and join the conversation online with #BakerRYP.
