Journalist Laura Secor discussed her recently published book, "Children of Paradise: The Struggle for the Soul of Iran," in which she narrates the dramatic events that shaped modern Iran, from the Revolution in 1979 to the present. Kirkus Reviews described the book as "revealing [and] often shocking … An insightful chronicle of bloody repression and brave defiance.” Secor shed light on Iran, a complex and multifaceted country that continues to puzzle the world.
A book signing and reception followed the presentation. Copies of the book were available to purchase courtesy of the Rice University Bookstore.

Laura Secor is a journalist who has spent nearly a decade researching and writing about Iran. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic and other publications. Secor studied philosophy at Brown University and has taught journalism at New York University and Princeton. From 2008 to 2009, Secor served as a fellow at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at The New York Public Library. She has also worked as an editor of The New York Times op-ed page, a reporter for the Boston Globe and an acting executive editor of the American Prospect.
