The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which went into effect on July 1, is now being implemented, a process that will continue into the fall and beyond. Effective implementation presents enormous challenges for the three governments as well as for businesses, workers and other stakeholders in North America; its success or failure will impact hundreds of millions of citizens.

This webinar provided the context in which the USMCA — the most important U.S. trade agreement in a quarter century — became a reality. The USMCA drew overwhelming support from both Democratic and Republican members of Congress and is believed by many observers to be the new standard for future U.S. trade agreements. At this webinar, the Honorable Kevin Brady, U.S. representative for the 8th congressional district of Texas, and the Honorable Don Beyer, U.S. representative for the 8th congressional district of Virginia, discussed how the USMCA came to be.

This was the first of a series of five webinars on the USMCA, co-sponsored by the Center for the United States and Mexico and Haynes and Boone, LLP. Each webinar in the series featured outstanding experts from the United States, Mexico and Canada and provided viewers with up-to-date information on the progress, successes and challenges of putting the USMCA’s provisions into practice. Additional support for this webinar was provided by Transnational Dispute Management.
