U.S.-Russia relations have reached their lowest point since the end of the Cold War. Russia and the United States find themselves on opposing sides of issues as varied as the simmering conflict in Ukraine and Syria’s relentless civil war.
At this troubled moment in U.S.-Russia relations and in the aftermath of Russia’s presidential elections, H.E. Anatoly Antonov, Russia’s top representative in the United States, will speak at the Baker Institute. He will address the current state of the bilateral relationship from the Russian perspective, and participate in a question and answer period moderated by Baker Institute director Edward P. Djerejian.

The Director’s Lecture Series was created and endowed by Ambassador Edward P. Djerejian and Mrs. Françoise Djerejian to provide a specific forum for Baker Institute Roundtable members, faculty and students to engage in the most relevant and pressing issues we face today.

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed H.E. Anatoly Antonov as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian federation to the United States on August 21, 2017. Antonov also serves as active state councilor of the Russian Federation, 1st class. He was previously deputy foreign minister on issues of military and political security from 2016 to 2017 and deputy minister of defense from 2011 to 2016. Antonov received a Ph.D. in political science from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and is fluent in Russian, English and Burmese.
