In this lecture, Anita Jones will share her thoughts on timely science and technology policy issues, such as negotiating the balance between personal computer privacy and national security interests, as well as other topics relevant to the public.

Anita Jones, Ph.D., joined the University of Virginia as a professor and the chair of the Computer Science Department in 1988. From 1993 to 1997, she served as director of defense research and engineering at the U.S. Department of Defense, where she oversaw the department’s research laboratories, science and technology program, and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). She has also served as vice chair of the National Science Board, co-chair of the Virginia Research and Technology Advisory Commission, and a member of the Defense Science Board.

A reception will follow the lecture. This event, also a part of the Shell Distinguished Lecture Series, is co-hosted by the Baker Institute Science and Technology Policy Program, the George R. Brown School of Engineering, the Ken Kennedy Institute for Information Technology and the Wiess School of Natural Sciences at Rice University.
