Regardless of their ideology, racial makeup, political leanings or religion, violent extremist organizations and other groups that use violence to advance their goals often use similar tactics to recruit vulnerable young people to join their ranks. At this panel discussion, a former recruiter for a violent Islamist organization, a former member of a neo-Nazi group and a former gang member shared their experiences in joining and eventually leaving their respective groups and offered insight into how communities can help build resilience to individuals, ideologies and groups that draw people to extremism.
