It is with profound sadness and deepest respect that the Baker Institute for Public Policy honorary chair, James A. Baker III, notes the passing of Wallace Stedman Wilson, “Wally,” a lifelong Houstonian, cherished childhood friend of Secretary Baker, and a founding member of the Baker Institute’s advisory board.

Wally was an exceptional leader in business and civic life. Over decades at the helm of Wilson Industries, he exemplified integrity, innovation, and a steadfast belief that success is measured not only by growth, but by loyalty and responsibility to the broader community. His leadership left an enduring mark on the energy industry and on the many institutions he served with distinction.

A devoted supporter of thoughtful public policy and education, Wally generously endowed a fellowship in the Baker Institute’s Center for Energy Studies, which bears his name. Through this fellowship, his commitment to rigorous analysis, principled leadership, and the advancement of sound energy policy will continue to shape scholarship and public discourse for generations to come.

“Wally Wilson embodied the very best traditions of civic leadership and public service,” said Ambassador (Ret.) David M. Satterfield, Director of the Baker Institute. “His generosity, wisdom, and deep commitment to informed policy analysis strengthened the Baker Institute in lasting ways. The fellowship he endowed in the Center for Energy Studies ensures that his belief in rigorous, independent thinking will endure well into the future.”

Beyond his many accomplishments, Wally will be remembered for his warmth, humility, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. His legacy lives on in the institutions he strengthened, the lives he touched, and the example he set.
