It is with profound sadness that the Baker Institute for Public Policy honorary chair, James A. Baker III, notes the passing of Ambassador Hushang Ansary — a distinguished diplomat and a lifetime member of Rice University’s Baker Institute.
Ambassador Ansary served with distinction as Iran’s ambassador to the United States and minister of finance, earning wide respect for his intellect, judgment, and commitment to diplomacy and international cooperation.
A generous supporter of the Baker Institute and a valued member of its Board of Advisors, Ambassador Ansary helped shape the direction of the institute’s work through his counsel, leadership, and steadfast belief in rigorous, independent policy analysis and thoughtful global engagement.
“His global perspective, generosity, and service on the Board of Advisors strengthened the institute in lasting ways,” said Ambassador (Ret.) David M. Satterfield, Director of the Baker Institute.
Secretary Baker and the Baker Institute extend their heartfelt condolences to his wife, Shahla, and to the entire Ansary family. His legacy endures in the work he helped guide and the example he set.
