Peter Hartley, the George A. Peterkin Professor of Economics at Rice, is the 2023 recipient of the United States Association for Energy Economics (USAEE) Adelman-Frankel Award.

The Adelman-Frankel Award is the most prestigious honor bestowed by the association, given annually to an individual or organization for a unique and innovative contribution to the field of energy economics.

Hartley was presented with the award Nov. 7 at the USAEE/International Association for Energy Economics North American Conference in Chicago in recognition for his extensive and broad work in energy economics. He has worked in the field for 40 years, focusing originally on electricity and expanding to include natural gas, oil, coal, nuclear and renewable energy. He has also published in other areas including theoretical and applied issues in money and banking, business cycles and international finance.

“I’m honored to be included among the distinguished group of economists who have previously received the award,” Hartley said.

The Rice Baker Institute’s Center of Energy Studies previously received the award in 2013 as an organization.

More information on past award recipients is online at https://www.usaee.org/aws/USAEE/pt/sp/awards.
