On March 25, Charles Mathias joined the Baker Institute as director for the Texas Consortium for the Non-Medical Drivers of Health, a grant-funded initiative based within the institute's Center for Health and Biosciences. Under the direction of the consortium’s founder and senior advisor, senior health policy fellow Elena Marks, Mathias leads the consortium’s strategic planning and program implementation to incorporate non-medical services into health care.

Mathias brings over 20 years of experience leading state and federal public health research programs. Most recently, he worked as a professor and director for impact and innovation within the School of Nursing at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He has also served as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow in Washington, D.C. Mathias earned a doctoral and master’s degree in applied biopsychology from the University of New Orleans and holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Indiana University.
