How can governments in Latin America attract more foreign investment, and what are the main sources of political risk for investors? This Vecinos lecture brought together experts from the private sector and academia to help interpret the role of politics in foreign investment in Argentina and Venezuela.

Foreign investment has substantially increased in Latin America since the 1990s. Two of the main recipients, Argentina and Venezuela, present important challenges and opportunities for investors in the region. Despite the fact that the countries have significantly weakened the property rights of investors during the last decade, both continue trying to attract investors to key sectors like oil and gas, with mixed success.
