The Qatar Stem Cell Workshop will be held in Doha, Qatar, at the Weill-Cornell Medical College-Qatar. Eminent scholars, scientists and medical researchers will discuss the latest scientific discoveries and applications of stem cells aimed at understanding human development and targeting diseases. Because of the risks and other concerns associated with the use of stem cells, this workshop will seek to develop policy options that account for cultural, ethical and religious factors.

As part of the State of Qatar"s efforts to improve science, education and research, the Qatar Foundation Research Division, in association with Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar National Health Authority, is collaborating with the Baker Institute's Science and Technology Policy Program to connect policy and science in an international context, along with stronger avenues for cooperation and the advancement of medical science and science-based policy. The Qatar Stem Cell Workshop is the fourth conference in the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy's "Stem Cells: Saving Lives or Crossing Lines" series. This effort will encompass all aspects of stem cell science and policy by developing an interactive website, conducting in-depth policy research and hosting events such as the Qatar Stem Cell Workshop.

Support for this program was generously provided by the State of Qatar and the Emir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani. The workshop aims to expand the policy research and outreach of the Baker Institute International Stem Cell Policy Program.
