In the film “My Stolen Planet,” director Farahnaz Sharifi uses a diary-style narrative to show how the Islamic Revolution changed life for women in Iran. Born in 1979, shortly after the fall of the Pahlavi dynasty, Sharifi draws on home movies and found 8mm recordings of strangers’ lives to show moments of private joy and public defiance under regimented oppression in Tehran. Throughout, she portrays Iranian women with humanity and complexity, sharing her love for her country’s textures while refusing to be diminished by repressive religious and government structures.

The Baker Institute Women’s Rights, Human Rights, and Refugees Program co-hosted a public screening of the film with the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH) as part of their Festival of Films from Iran.

A limited number of complimentary tickets were available to members of the Baker Roundtable. Members were able to email Ana Martín Gil at [email protected] to request tickets (limit of 2). General admission tickets could also be purchased here for $10; $8 MFAH members, students with ID, and seniors (65+). This off-site screening took place in the Brown Auditorium Theater in the Caroline Wiess Law Building.
