The Honorable Paul H. O"Neill was the 72nd U.S. secretary of the treasury, serving from 2001 to 2002. O"Neill was chairman and CEO of Alcoa Inc. from 1987 to 1999, and retired as chairman at the end of 2000. Prior to joining Alcoa, he was president of International Paper Company from 1985 to 1987, where he served as vice president from 1977 to 1985. O"Neill worked as a computer systems analyst with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from 1961 to 1966 and served on the staff of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) from 1967 to 1977. He was deputy director of OMB from 1974 to 1977. O"Neill received a bachelor"s degree in economics from California State University, Fresno, and master"s degree in public administration from Indiana University.
