Nathan P. Jones, the institute"s Alfred C. Glassell III Postdoctoral Fellow in Drug Policy, will discuss the history of the Arellano Felix Organization (aka the Tijuana Cartel) and what it tells us about the consequences of the drug war in Mexico. His work on the subject won the Western Political Science Association"s 2012 award for best dissertation. At this event, Jones will draw from more than a year of in-depth interviews in Mexico City and Tijuana to provide a rare look at the internal operations of a cartel, as well as the savage internecine battles that continue to this day. Jones will also discuss the controversial security policies of the new presidential administration in Mexico.
