Rice University"s Baker Institute celebrates its 20th year in 2013. To mark this milestone, we have planned a special series of events that highlight our programs and research. Join us throughout the year for lectures and conferences on important and timely issues, including U.S.-Middle East policy, U.S. fiscal policy and immigration reform.

At this event, the first of the 20th series, former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Baker Institute senior fellow for Latin America, will examine key U.S. foreign policy issues in the Western Hemisphere, including immigration, border issues, drugs, Cuba and Venezuela.

As a senior fellow, Richardson provides substantive direction to the institute"s Latin America Initiative by enhancing the program"s policy focus on crucial topics including immigration, natural resources and energy, as well as the emerging roles of key countries such as Brazil. Richardson"s public service career includes time as secretary of energy during the Clinton administration, ambassador to the United Nations and U.S. representative from New Mexico.
