"Anticipating bigger and more frequent storms because of climate change, the U.S. industry has been trying to harden some of its facilities on the Gulf Coast," said Mark Finley, fellow in energy and global oil.

"If the prospects for future economic growth are systematically or probabilistically too high, then so is future energy energy demand growth," said energy fellow Mark Finley of the possibility that long-term oil demand models are too optimistic. 

“I think we’re seeing the broader forces of deglobalization, which is also accelerated by the Covid-19 crisis,” said energy fellow Mark Finley of the effects of the pandemic on the oil and gas industry. 

Energy fellow Mark Finley joined Resources for the Future for a discussion on the implications of the coronavirus pandemic for the global energy system.

As oil prices begin to recover, "the fundamentals are clearly getting better but we are not out of the woods yet," said energy fellow Mark Finley. "As long as the market remains in surplus, even if the surplus is smaller, inventories still keep growing. And that is the source of risk."
