Texas’ political rhetoric led more Asian immigrants, who had been keen supporters of the Republican Party, to vote for Democrats in the 2018 election, said fellow Mark Jones.

“All it would take is a couple of raids here in Houston and [undocumented workers] will essentially go to ground,” fellow Mark Jones said about President Trump’s threats to remove illegal immigrants from the U.S.

The 2018 election results helped pull the Texas Republican Party back toward the center by signaling to conservative firebrands like Dan Patrick that if they didn't tone down their rhetoric, they'd run the risk of Republicans losing Texas, said fellow Mark Jones.
