With shale, “the assets don’t go away because you haven’t destroyed the field,” said Ken Medlock, senior director of the Center for Energy Studies. “We’ll see a thinning of the herd but the assets will still be there.”

"What makes this oil shock different than any other oil shock post World War II is that it’s all fear-driven," said Center for Energy Studies director Ken Medlock. "It feels like the world is falling apart, and there’s no telling how long this will last.”

"There's just not room for coal," said Ken Medlock, senior director of the Center for Energy Studies. "It's just not competitive." He thought the coal industry would remain, but in a much smaller form.
