Biography

Miranda R. Waggoner, Ph.D., is a Baker Institute Rice faculty scholar in the Center for Health and Biosciences. She is also associate professor of sociology at Rice University. Specializing in the history and sociology of medicine, her work aims to inform and broaden conversations in reproductive health policy and reproductive ethics. An award-winning author, Waggoner has published on topics such as pre-pregnancy care, medicalization, epigenetics, clinical research ethics, and reproductive risk. Her current work focuses on clinical trials in pregnancy and biomedical research regulations.

Her research has been supported by the Greenwall Foundation and she is the recipient of a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program award.

Waggoner has a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in sociology and social policy from Brandeis University. From 2011 to 2014, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University.
