Susan Wu
Susan Wu is a recent graduate of Rice University who majored in economics and biology. She has combined these two disciplines to explore interests that include bioengineering, social entrepreneurship and health care throughout her undergraduate career. Her research focus has been the intersection of health care and social development; her senior thesis examined the biological mechanisms by which poverty transcends generations. She has also participated in research characterizing biaxial diaphragm mechanics and examining the infectivity of Cryptosporidium meleagridis, a coccidian parasite found throughout the world. Her postgraduate plans are to study at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. A native of Palo Alto, Calif., Susan has worked as a barista for four years. When not working or studying, she enjoys baking, running and reading (she is a self-proclaimed bookworm). Susan has traveled extensively to China, where the majority of her family resides. She has also traveled throughout Europe and spent last summer in Mongolia, where she assisted surgeons in Ulaanbaatar. This will be Susan’s first visit to the Middle East. |
