Shell Distinguished Lecture Series - The Policy and Politics of Modernization

Former President of Mexico Carlos Salinas de Gortari discusses his latest book, Mexico: The Policy and Politics of Modernization. A Harvard-educated political economist, Salinas became minister of planning and the budget for Mexico (1982-87) and later was elected President (1988-1994). A member of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary party (PRI), he became the first PRI presidential candidate to face competitive elections.
