No, the Baker Institute is a university-based think tank which
conducts research on domestic and international subjects and conducts
lectures, seminars and conferences that explore the public policy
issues of those subjects. We do not have a curriculum or faculty and do
not offer courses or degrees.
When openings for staff positions are available, they are posted
through the Rice University Office of Human Resources.
Applications for staff positions cannot be accepted by the Baker
Institute and must be submitted through the Office of Human Resources.
Please see the employment opportunities page for more information. Fellow and scholar positions are closely tied to specific research
programs of the Baker Institute and are used to bring in experience and
expertise that are not available among the Rice faculty. When openings
occur, they are advertised in appropriate venues. The Baker Institute
often has Rice students working part time as office assistants. These
jobs are posted and advertised on campus. The Baker Institute also has
a student internship program that is open to Rice students. The
internship program is advertised in the Rice Thresher, the student
newspaper of Rice University.
Our goal is to archive relevant discussions and events as electronic
storage space permits. For those events that we do plan to archive, we
will post our intent on the Baker Institute front page immediately
after the event. However, it may take up to a month to actually have
the archived file available for viewing.
Rice students, faculty, staff and administrators are invited to all audience events. The members of the Baker Institute Roundtable, a
donor support group, are also invited to all Baker Institute audience
events. For more information on the Roundtable, please visit the
Roundtable section of the website. While these audiences have general
invitations, specific requests for invitations will be accommodated as
available seating permits. Specific requests can be addressed to the
Baker Institute's events manager, Melissa Leuellen. She can be
reached at 713.348.4945 or by e-mail at melissal@rice.edu.
The Baker Institute does not have a general, public mailing list for
any of our mailings, i.e., invitations or publications. However, our
publications and studies are available on our website for viewing and/or downloading. Permission to download our publications is granted with
the condition that any use of the publication in whole or in part
acknowledges the publication, the institute and/or author.
Please send an electronic request to our development coordinator, Starr Dickerson, at starrd@rice.edu. Your change will be effective for the next mailing.
The Baker Institute is in the process of assembling a mailing list for updates to the website, institute news and upcoming events. Confirm your name and e-mail address here to make sure you receive the latest news about our events and research.
Members of the local media wishing to talk to Baker Institute staff or
researchers should contact Franz Brotzen, Rice University senior
media relations specialist for local media, at 713.348.6775 or franz.brotzen@rice.edu. National media should contact David Ruth, Rice University associate director for national media, at 713.348.6327 or druth@rice.edu.
