Baker Institute Exterior

How do I get to the Baker Institute?
Directions are available from the directions portion of the website.

Where do I park my vehicle while at the Baker Institute?
Instructions are available from our parking page.

Does the Baker Institute offer courses and degrees?
No, the Baker Institute is a university-based think tank which conducts research on domestic and international subjects and conducts lectures, seminars, and conferences that explore the public policy issues of those subjects. We do not have a curriculum or faculty and do not offer courses or degrees.

How can I apply for or obtain a job at the Baker Institute?
When openings for staff positions are available, they are posted through the Rice University Office of Human Resources (http://people.rice.edu/). Applications for staff positions cannot be accepted by the Baker Institute and must be submitted through the Office of Human Resources. Fellow and Scholar positions are closely tied to specific research programs of the Baker Institute and are used to bring in experience and expertise that are not available among the Rice faculty. When openings occur, they are advertised in appropriate venues. The Baker Institute often has Rice students working part time as office assistants. These jobs are posted and advertised on campus. The Baker Institute also has a student internship program that is open to Rice students. The internship program is advertised in the Rice Thresher, the student newspaper of Rice University.

Do you video archive all events and, if so, how soon after an event will they be available on the website?
Our goal is to archive relevant discussions and events as electronic storage space permits. For those events that we do plan to archive, we will post our intent on the Baker Institute front page immediately after the event. However, it may take up to a month to actually have the archived file available for viewing.

How can I receive an invitation to a Baker Institute event?
Rice students, faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to all "audience" events. The members of the Baker Institute Roundtable, a donor support group, are also invited to all Baker Institute "audience" events. For more information on the Roundtable, please visit the Roundtable section of the website. While these audiences have general invitations, specific requests for invitations will be accomodated as available seating permits. Specific requests can be addressed to the Baker Institute's Events Coordinator, Mr. Ryan Kirksey. He can be reached at 713/348.4683 or by email at rkirksey@rice.edu.

How can I be added to your mailing list?
The Baker Institute does not have a general, public mailing list for any of our mailings, i.e., invitations or publications. However, our publications and studies are available on our website for viewing and/ or downloading. Permission to download our publications is granted with the condition that any use of the publication in whole or in part acknowledges the publication, the institute, and/or author.

How can I submit an address change or request to be removed from a list?
Please send an electronic request to our Website and Information Systems manager at katieh@rice.edu.  Your change will be made in 48 hours and will be effective for the next mailing.

Can you add me to your email list for updates?
The Baker Institute does not currently have a mailing list for updates to the website or upcoming events. We do make a concerted effort to keep the website updated with the most current information. Please check the front page frequently for announcements on new additions.

How can I arrange an interview or media appearance with a Baker Institute staff member or researcher?
Members of the media wishing to talk to Baker Institute staff or researchers should contact Mr. Franz Brotzen, Rice University senior media relations specialist. He can be reached at 713/348.6775 or via email at franz.brotzen@rice.edu.

May I use information from Baker Institute publications? May I quote Baker Institute publications?
Yes. We want our research to reach the widest possible audience. We only ask that you provide the proper reference to the Baker Institute and/or a specific author as the source of the information.

Have we missed a question?
