Rice University's Baker Institute mourns the loss of Robert C. McNair, whose leadership and philanthropy improved countless lives and left a lasting legacy in Houston and beyond.
Mr. McNair was a great friend and supporter of the institute. He, along with his wife Janice, established one of its first endowments — the Janice and Robert McNair Chair in Public Policy, held by Baker Institute director Edward P. Djerejian. In the years that followed, Mr. McNair gave unstintingly of his time and expertise, and most recently endowed the McNair Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth. The Baker Institute recognized Mr. McNair’s professional achievements and dedication to public service with the Baker Prize for Excellence in Leadership in 2009.
“It is difficult to overstate Bob McNair’s importance to the Baker Institute,” said Ambassador Djerejian. “He was truly instrumental in shaping the institute into what it is today. We are honored and grateful for all he has done for us, and send our deepest condolences to Janice and the entire McNair family.”
