Despite what you have heard about rare earths, shifting to renewable energy will reduce mining.

In light of growing misconceptions about the risk of sourcing minerals for renewable energy, fellow Jim Krane and graduate fellow Robert Idel write that, to the contrary, their research shows the transition to renewables decreases risk and reduces mining.
