Candidates for Governor of Morelos

Below are the preliminary results reported by INE as of July 2. The official results will be published on July 4.




Cuauhtémoc Blanco - Juntos Haremos Historia

Cuauhtémoc Blanco, the current mayor of Cuernavaca, is the governor-elect of Morelos. He ran under Juntos Haremos Historia coalition, a coalition of the MORENA, PES and PT parties. Blanco is recognized as one of Mexico’s greatest soccer players.




Below are the candidates whose registrations were approved by the corresponding state electoral institute.





Rodrigo Gayosso Cepeda

Rodrigo Gayosso Cepeda is also in the running to be the PRD-PSD candidate in the gubernatorial elections in Morelos. The adopted son of Graco Ramirez, the state’s current governor, Gayosso Cepeda was the party leader for PRD in Morelos before stepping down in December to run for office. He has been lambasted by critics as the “awkward stepchild” of his more politically illustrious father.





Jorge Meade Ocaranza

Jorge Meade Ocaranza is the PRI candidate for governor of Morelos. He is delegate for the Ministry of Social Development in the state of Morelos. He was the state campaign coordinator for President Enrique Pena Nieto during his 2012 re-election campaign.


Partido Humanista



Mario Rojas Alba

Mario Rojas Alba is the official Partido Humanista candidate for governor. He is a surgeon in the faculty of medicine at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. He was also one of the founders of Partido de la Revolución Democrática.


Nueva Alianza



Alejandro Vera Jiménez

Alejandro Vera Jiménez is the official candidate for Nueva Alianza. He was the president of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Morelos from 2012 to 2018.



Por Morelos al Frente



Víctor Caballero Solano

Caballero Solano holds a medical degree from la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and a graduate degree in nutrition from la Universidad de Navarra. From 2006-2012 he served as the Secretary of Health in Morelos and a local deputy during the LIII Legislature. He is running for governor under the coalition “Por Morelos al Frente.”





Fidel Demédicis Hidalgo

Demédicis Hidalgo is the sole independent candidate in the elections. He has a long political trajectory and has served on the Rural Development, Foreign Relations, and the Education committees during his time as a senator. He first served in Congress in 2003, and was a leading figure in the PRD organization before breaking ties with the party in 2017. Demédicis Hidalgo holds a B.A. in political science and sociology from la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico





Nadia Luz Lara Chávez

Lara Chávez holds a law degree from the la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos and has practiced as a judge for several years. She has additionally served as the president of Morelos’s Supreme Court and was recognized for her work by Loyola University in 2003. She will be PVEM candidate for the upcoming election.
